Somewhere about halfway through The Bachelor Preferred Pastry, I had decided that this was an entertaining read, but couldn't find anything to merit it as a romance referral. I liked the characters and could see that it was following the romance formula so as others looking for the same wouldn't be disappointed.
Between each chapter, Shirley has included some tempting dessert recipes. Each with a cute name and blurb at the beginning of the instructions as to how it ties into what I've just read or as a tease to what's coming up. I found this to be a pleasant touch, but by the third recipe I had to stop reading through each one. It was making me hungry and my double-wide backside doesn't need to grow a sun-porch.
Finally in the third act, I did find one thing that stood out and made me feel The Bachelor Preferred Pastry was indeed worth adding to my list of referrals. I was genuinely touched by how a father's love had been demonstrated through his personal and career sacrifices.
That's all I be sayin' on that, so as not to spoil it for you.
Synopsis: The Bachelor Preferred Pastry
Daniel Worth, the heir to the Worth Hotel empire participates in a Bachelor Auction for charity to appease his grandfather and keep his hefty allowance and perks of wealth flowing his way.
Olivia Regan is struggling to keep her pastry business afloat and prove to her family that she can make it as an entrepreneur. With everything she has left in her checking account, Olivia bids on Boston's Most Eligible Bachelor to take advantage of the 24 hour prize by using the notorious playboy's photos in a marketing campaign for a last ditch effort to save the pastry shop.
After taking Daniel back to the pastry shop, Olivia finds the bought and paid for bachelor to be less than cooperative with her plans. Of course, Daniel had expected for the time of his servitude to include sweet treats--flour and sugar is not what he anticipated.
However, Daniel's primary reluctance is that he knows his grandfather would never approve of the Worth family name being used for any endorsements. Participation on Daniel's part could cause gramps to remove the financial cookie-jar. So, Daniel offers Olivia a different solution that doesn't go over so well and he ends up wearing her refusal.
